| The Fürst Hardenberg Colliery Shaft 1 | |
|
The engine house and the Malakow tower (both built in 1876) have both been preserved on the site of the Fürst Hardenberg Colliery . The tower is one of 14 remaining examples in the Ruhr area. The architecture of the 32 metre-high brick building with is starkly protruding flying buttresses is more like that of a fortified stronghold. In the early 1930s an expressionist-style annex, which still exists today, was added to the basement floor of this historicist building. It was used to house handcraft firms and workshops; its future use is still undecided. The old colliery site has been cleared for use as a logistics park.
